CONFUCIUSORNIS FEATHERED DINOSAUR: Fast Facts

Confuciusornis was named after the Chinese moral philosopher Confucius (551–479 BC).

The pronunciation of this short little dinosaur-bird is 'kon-few-shus-or-niss'.

Confuciusornis, a genus of extinct crow-sized birds living during the Late Jurassic and Early Cretaceous (roughly 161 million to 100 million years ago).

Confuciusornis fossils were discovered in Eastern China, in ancient lake deposits mixed with layers of volcanic ash.

These dinosaur birds with feathers used to live both on land and near water bodies as well.

Confuciusornis were piscivores (fish eating carnivores)

In early 2010, a group of scientists examined beautifully preserved specimens. By studying them with an  electron microscope, they found indications that Confuciusornis had hues of grey, red/brown and black, possibly something like the modern zebra finch.
