The dodo bird was a flightless member of the pigeon family found only on the island of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean. It was a plump bird covered in soft, grey feathers with a plump white tail. It had small wings that were too weak to ever lift it off the ground. Fully grown dodos weighed about 50 lb and stood 3 ft tall. In 1681, the dodo became extinct.
